Can you briefly introduce yourself?
My name is robin phildius and I work as an illustrator & photographer.
How did you discover your passion for drawing?
Like many people my passion for visual storytelling developed in childhood. I spent all my free time dreaming with a pencil or exploring the surrounding woods with my dad’s camera.
What is your background?
I was able to go to a school to train myself in the creation of visuals in various forms, and then I specialised in visual storytelling by doing a school of comics and illustration followed by a bachelor in visual storytelling. And today, I have the pleasure to craft visual stories for companies and individuals.
How much do you love art and why?
Outside of work, there is not a day that goes by that I don’t read a story, listen to music or watch a film or series. I think what I like so much about art in general is that it allows me to travel to a space that doesn’t exist, to relax or to learn new things about myself or others. I really see art as a way to capture an emotion, an idea or a moment in a form that you can share with others.
Do you have any particular influences?
It’s very difficult to choose. The images of robert hainard or hans emmeneger speak to me particularly. I really like the sensitivity of Hans Andersen’s tales and the absurd violence of a Tarantino. And for music it’s the same, I love ambient and soft songs, as well as the last deathcore album by Lorna Shore. Every style of art has its own particularities. It’s the contrast and the authenticity in general that i like the most i think.
One of your qualities?
I’ve been told that if I were to have one lousy superpower, it would be that I always arrive on time. But frankly, I don’t know if that’s really the case. (Actually, I know it’s not.)
And one of your faults?
My ears are a bit too sensitive to sound. It’s particularly annoying at the cinema and in town, the volume is quickly too loud for my little ears.
Do you like coffee?
I live on a constant drip of coffee.
And finally, what are you currently working on?
Lots of things! I’m very keen to start offering prints of some of my illustrations and photos. I’m also developing the first prototype of a children’s book.
